In a Superstitious Solarpunk future, an alien ship enters orbit over the ocean. It begins dropping packages with DNA sequences encoded on them. The packages contain electronic chips that produce their own energy and have AI personalities inside them that seek to assist their designated host. These chips, called Spirits, soon become personal assistants to people around the globe, driving all sorts of technology to aid their Hosts. If you put the chip in an ambulatory device like a drone, it will follow and move around its owner skillfully, for example. The spirits were perfectly in sync with their Hosts, and were compatible with nearly any technology they were attached to. 

Then came the other ships. 

While no communication was achieved with the first ship, the new ones were clear with their intentions. They were an invasion force of partially mechanical creatures, intent on colonizing earth and eradicating its inhabitants. It was soon deduced that the first ship, now called the "Fairy Spirit" was arming the locals to help us fend off the invading force.

30% of humans have their spirit. 100% are in danger. Will you answer the call and fight back?
